Jipmer faculty forum demands action against mob for attacking doctor

PUDUCHERRY: Jipmer (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research) Faculty Association (JFA) has strongly condemned the violent attack on doctors by a violent mob around 6 pm on Friday and urged the institute administration and Puducherry government to take stern action against the people, who attacked the doctors.
JFA joint secretary Dr Shivanand Kattimani in a statement on Saturday said an 11-month-old critically ill baby undergoing investigations had respiratory arrest and was undergoing resuscitation at the pediatric intensive care unit(ICU) on Friday evening.

He said four or five members of a political party claiming to be the relatives of the child barged into the ICU, abused the pediatric doctors, attacked them and issued death threats to them.

He said the association office bearers, members and medical and paramedical staff members are deeply disturbed and saddened by the violent attack on the doctors. “Such violence against our dedicated healthcare providers is completely unacceptable and deeply distressing…We strongly condemn this deplorable incident and demand immediate action against those involved. Our priority remains focused on the well-being and recovery of our patients, and we will not tolerate any form of aggression towards our doctors and other healthcare professionals in Jipmer, who are tirelessly working to save the lives of all patients and providing compassionate care,” he said.
JFA urged the Jipmer administration and the Puducherry government to take stern action against the people involved in violence against doctors. The association pointed out that a doctor working in the emergency medical department was attacked by a violent mob six months ago and the government or police did not take any action against the culprits.
