JEE Main 2025: How many marks are required for NIT admission

Admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) under the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is a very important milestone for all engineering aspirants in India. The marks required for admission to any specific NIT in the academic year 2025 will depend on the NIT, the branch of engineering chosen, the category of the candidate, and the competition prevalent at the time.

JEE Main Cut-offs

JEE Main cut-off is the minimum score a student must obtain for entry into the NITs. The number of applicants, difficulty level in the exam, availability of seats, and percentage of reservations made based on caste are some factors that affect cut-offs. As a rule, cut-offs are declared through closing ranks at each NIT and its related engineering branches.

While the specific cut-offs for 2025 will be confirmed once the examination happens, the data trends of earlier years can at least give some estimates. So, in 2024, the percentile of the JEE Main cut-off score in the general category was around 93.23 percent. To get admission to NIT, candidates were required to score higher than this given percentile. It is around 79.67 percentile for the OBC, while for the SC and ST, it would be 60.09 and 50.23 percentile, respectively.

The cut-off is determined by the reservation policies. A candidate belonging to the OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories always has a lower cut-off than the General category. Take the example of an OBC student wanting to attend CSE at NIT Warangal. He/She would be required to achieve a rank of around 761, that is, approximately 252 plus marks. On the other hand, SC and ST candidates have varying cut-offs that are determined on the basis of the reservation rules and seat quotas.

Preparation Strategy

Preparation will always increase the chances of getting a preferred NIT and branch.

1. Pattern of Exam: Understand the JEE Main syllabus and pattern in which the exams are conducted.

2. Regular Practice: Attempt previous years’ question papers or mock tests so that the gap in your preparation can be known.

3. Time Management: Keep certain time slots for individual subjects and work specifically on weaker topics.

4. Keep an eye on official announcements of the National Testing Agency (NTA) related to the date, pattern, and more for the examination.

It is not known what marks would be needed for admission into NIT in the year 2025. However, working to secure a high rank at JEE Main 2025 will increase the chances of getting a seat at the wanted NIT and branch. Thorough preparation, familiarity with the JEE Main test pattern, and following official updates are steps toward achieving that.
