In the Union Territory of Puducherry, India, Pondicherry University, or PU, is a central research university situated in Kalapet, Pondicherry. It was founded in 1985 by an Act of Parliament issued by the Indian government's Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.

Hostel- Currently, there are twenty-two hostels on the Pondicherry University campus; eight are reserved for girls and fourteen for guys. Four of the fourteen boys' hostels are designated for research scholars, while 10 are for PG courses. There are eight hostels for girls, seven of which are reserved for PG students and one for research scholars. There are two hostels on the Karaikal Campus: one for girls and one for boys. The Port Blair Campus offers both a boys' and a girls' hostel.
