On September 4, 1978, Anna University was established as a unitary university. This University was named after Late Dr C.N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It provides postsecondary education in engineering, technology, architecture, and applied sciences that are pertinent to the requirements of society both now and in the future. In the city of Madras (now Chennai), four renowned technical colleges came together to form the university. These institutions were:
