One of the largest universities in South India in terms of student enrollment and disciplinary diversity is Annamalai University, which is also among the oldest. Across a huge and verdant campus spanning one thousand acres, the university is home to approximately fifty departments of study organized under eight faculties. Founded in 1929 by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, the renowned benefactor and visionary. The University Town of Annamalainagar is situated just east of Chidambaram, the abode of Lord Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer.
The courses are offered under 10 faculties including Arts, Science, Engineering, Medical, Management, Humanities, etc. The university additionally provides PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate programs in several specializations.
The Distance Education Board (DEB) has approved and accredited all of the programs offered by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE). The on-campus programs have received approval and accreditation from the appropriate authorities, including the NAAC, NBA, AICTE, NCTE, ICAR, etc. The University is accredited with an "A+" grade in the fourth cycle of accreditation by the NAAC in 2022.
