Job Description

Our technology teams work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile teams; we regularly collaborate with colleagues based around the UK, Poland, India, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2020 and beyond, we are currently seeking a number of senior engineers to join HSBC Digital Services.

The Digital Services Team

We have hundreds of developers across the globe building services on premises and in the cloud to support the ongoing digital transformation of HSBC. We simplify the integration of established mainframes as well as create journeys to support a multitude of channels such as Web, Mobile and Open Banking.

Introduction

Digital Services Core Engineering provides products and services that strive to improve the efficiency of HSBC. Our goal is to help HSBC teams deliver cost-effective journeys securely.

As Core Engineers, we help define and demonstrate engineering best practices.

Our attention to detail needs to be excellent as should our ability to assess ‘the bigger picture’.

We are looking for an accomplished senior backend developer to contribute to these goals.

The role is a hands-on development role foremost; delivering services and libraries to address recognised cross cutting capabilities. Their contributions are expected to exemplify the high standards we help define.

Responsibilities:


Review solutions for alignment with the stated goals of Digital Services
Work with product owners and stakeholders to establish requirements and report progress
Advocate for and meet high professional standards of development primarily in Java
Deliver appropriate and comprehensive tests as part of every deliverable
Approach technical challenges with an open collaborative mindset
Innovate for quantifiable business benefits
Take initiative to improve the developer experience and efficiency
Champion core engineering products
Teach or mentor our consumers

Ialde / Desired Skillset:


Good written and oral communications skills are essential
Must be able to apply SOLID and other architectural principles to designs and code
Must be able to articulate a clear understanding of event-driven architecture patterns
Experience implementing event-based solutions is desirable
A strong grasp of functional, non-blocking, asynchronous code or coroutines
A strong grasp of micro services / APIs patterns
Demonstrably polyglot – Java 8, Node JS etc.
Bonus if this is in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Scala
Comfortable choosing and applying appropriate testing approaches
Performance testing experience
Prior experience of Sprint Boot, Spring Cloud Services, MuleSoft required
Prior experience of Istio, Kubernetes, Docker is desirable
Experience of AWS, EKS, Kafka etc is desirable but not required
Experience securing APIs at scale would be beneficial
