About Tripura University: Advanced education in Tripura had a late start.Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College, the principal degree school in the State, began working under the University of Calcutta just in 1947.Not that there was no endeavor in the past in Princely Tripura to build up any higher instructive institution.As ahead of schedule as 1901, Radhakishore Manikya made an endeavor to set up a degree school in the-then small capital town Agartala; however as the proposition did not satisfy the fundamental necessities, it didn't get endorsement from the Calcutta University.In 1937, Bir Bikramkishore Manikya, the last Maharaja of Tripura, had made arrangements for setting up a school again at Agartala and a territory of 254 sections of land of area, comprising of undulated tilla land having mediated lakes all around, in the eastern piece of Agartala, was reserved for that under the "Vidyapattan Scheme".
